What is AWS Class ER308LSi MIG and TIG Filler Metal ?

AWS Class ER308LSi MIG and TIG filler welding wire and rod are developed to weld austenitic stainless steels, especially 304 and other alloys of the same type. They are usually chemically composed of 1820% chromium, 912% nickel, 0.51.0% silicon, and low carbon (less than 0.03) to minimize the formation of carbides, and enhance the ability to withstand corrosion. ER308LSi is a material with tensile strength of 550-700 Mpa, yield strength of approximately 210-240 Mpa and elongation of a 35-45 percent, which has great ductility and toughness. this added silicon provides high quality welds that are smooth and free of porosity in addition to the fact that it is able to offer a high fluidity during the welding process making it best suited to both MIG and TIG welding of stainless steel.
